Reid Bill Fails To Be Passed

We found out today that Senator Reid’s attempt to legalise and regulate online poker in the US has failed.

The bill was set up due to the current embargo on US players not being able to ‘legally’ play online poker with many poker sties around the world. It looked to include a 20% revenue tax on poker sites for its US players, which seemed throughout the poker world to be relatively small and may even decrease the rake currently been paid by players.

However, it would not all of been good news. The bill included a 15 month ‘black-out’ period where no sites would again ‘legally’ be able to serve US players. At the minute major sites like Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars have loop holed the ban and continue to serve US players, but if this bill were to pass, then it would been highly likely that they’d of applied for licences and obeyed to the 15 month black-out period meaning current poker players would of been left high and dry, if only for 15 months.

It’s thought that after the current failings of the previous bill that a new one will be written up in the near future, but for now poker in the US remains ‘illegal’ and no quick fire turnaround looks to be on the cards.
