NJ Approves Online Gambling

It was announced on January 10th that New Jersey look set to legalise online gambling in their state offered through casinos licensed in Atlantic City. All that sits in the way of this ruling becoming law is a signature from Governor Christie which is expected to coming in the next few months.

The failure in 2010 of Senators Harry Reid’s push to nationally legalise online gambling has sparked a few states to make it state law and push for the legalisation, or at least relaxed laws on the matter. Florida, Iowa, DC and California look set to follow suit if New Jerseys law is passed.

American gamblers are hoping that if the NJ bill passes then it will be a stepping stone to get the bill passed nationally to allow people to play from their homes or mobile devices.  The implications nationally are not yet known, but this can only be a positive move. It is likely that congress will monitor how these states get on before making any decision nationally. If the right steps are taken and regulations followed by online gamblers, then it looks like a massive positive step after the disappointment of the failure of the Reid Bill.
